The Himalayan Society for Heritage and Art Conservation (HIMSHACO), Himalayan Society for Heritage and Art Conservation is a not-for-profit organization registered under the Indian Societies Act 1860. Headquartered at Ranibagh, in the lower Himalayas, in the lake district of Nainital, HIMSHACO was established in 2006 with the prime objective of conservation of historic and artistic works, training, research, as well as revival of crafts and related traditions and practices.
HIMSHACO prepares heritage conservation strategies and detailed project reports for conservation of collections, implements heritage conservation projects in various States of India for public and private institutions as well as for individuals and local communities. It regularly conducts art conservation training programmes.
Himalayan Society for Heritage and Art Conservation, Ranibagh, due to its well-equipped conservation laboratory and vast network of practicing art conservation professionals, has been implementing art conservation projects for more than fifteen years in the mountainous Himalayan region and in the rest of the country with institutions like State Governments, Universities, UNESCO, Tata Trusts and others. It is a designated conservation centre for the National Mission for Manuscripts of Ministry of Culture, Government of India. In addition to the conservation work at its conservation centre, HIMSHACO has a very good experience in implementing in-situ art conservation projects.
HIMSHACO has been chosen as a center by TATA-TRUSTS ART CONSERVATION INITIATIVE in 2019, with the aim to train art conservators and museum personnel to preserve and conserve tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
The chief functionary of this not-for-profit organization is Anupam Sah, an art Conservation-Restoration practitioner, strategist and educator.
As per government norms HIMSHACO is also registered also with the Darpan Portal of Ministry of Culture, Government of India. HIMSHACO has site units in every region of India from where it engages in its conservation education and outreach programmes with cultural institutions.
